I finally took up racing in 1999, after talking about it for years. This 81 Scirocco is a great autocross car. I sold it in October 2000.

Cornering hard at the 1999 24 Huere Du Mall. This event is 24 hours long, running from Noon on Saturday to Noon on Sunday. My best run in ’99 was at 11:30 PM. In 2000, my best run was at 4:30 AM and 2001 was at 1:30 AM. Go figure. We need more night events.

In 2000, I finally got some race wheels and tires. What a difference they make. I actually won an event in the 2000 season! Of course, the tough competition wasn’t there… <g>

Running hard at the second 1999 Danville autocross. The car had no swaybars installed at this point. Impressive body lean, if I say so myself.

This is what the car looked like when purchased in May 1997. There aren’t many old Scirocco’s left in stock condition.

The powerhouse 1.7l-8v. It rocks. (yeah, right…)

I sold the Scirocco in October 2000 to a Raleigh racer. Look at what he did in just a few months! He even mounted the NOS Kamei spoiler that I sold with the car. Excellent. He ran several track events and installed a roll bar after this picture was taken. In late 2002 he sold it to someone on e-bay.
